The young v the old: Part III

Ok, here we go again as the young took on the old last night!

This time, the game was really interesting as we had a goal fest! 8 goals in all, with the winning team going towards the younger ones! This time, the Alumni team, also known as RPAST (RP Alumni Soccer Team) looked almost complete, with ABC (Aileen, Bernice, Catherine) coming back for the friendly, after their exams. But still, RPAST was short of 3 players and we had Sheu, Rui Wei and Charmaine who joined the team and played for them for the first 2 halves.

The game was played in 3 halves of 30 minutes and after the first 2 halves, RPAST was trailing 4-1, with the lone alumni goal coming from Utt, the top scorer for RPAST! In the 3rd halve, another top scorer for RPAST, Marj scored the 2nd consolation goal for the team!

After 90 minutes, RPWST won 6-2 over RPAST, with POL-ITE 2010 Top scorer, Fifi grabbing a hat trick, Jannah grabbing 1 or 2 and we cannot remember who scored the other goal. All in all, good game and kudos to a netball player who stood between the posts for RPAST for 90 minutes! Her nerves did show but a couple of good saves was made! Her height for netball definitely played an important part as she proudly donned a national team jersey, with a number 1 on the back! 90 minutes of fame, we like to put it.

After that, the team settled down for a good pizza time and yes, the night definitely belonged to everyone who worked equally hard during the game.

So, last game for 2010 has concluded and we look forward to 2011! In the mean time, the blog wishes everyone a Happy Merry December and Happy Holidays!

Farewell, Good Stuff and Hello!

The team had a last gathering 2 weeks ago with their all-time favorite coach, Coach Feiruz, thrown in with some good pizzas and wings. Awww......the team will definitely miss their handsome coach, as depicted by one of the drawing artist (we wonder who!) in the illustrations below:

As we can see more or less, the circled one is deemed as the handsome man! Perhaps one day the team will bump into coach Feiruz again, you'll never know.

Also, to further do themselves proud, the team won a Service-Learning Award earlier in the week during the annual Service-Learning Awards! Not only was an award won but also massive vouchers and prizes!

The team comes together to pose with their award, held by Jannah.

Sheu, Samantha, Mim and Nina pose proudly with their lucky draw winnings above.

Yep, all 4 ladies were definitely having a lucky night, winning vouchers from the lucky draw!

Last but not least, the new team committee was voted for just yesterday and.....the newly appointed commitee members are..... *drum rolls*

Captain: Salasiah
V-Captain: Sheu
Team Manager: Sarah

Congratulations to Team SSS (coincidentally all their names start with 'S') in their new appointment for the coming year! Definintely they will be looking to leading the team to a super, sexy and sweet year ahead of them!

That's all we have for you this week!

From Zero to Hero!

What a way to end yet another year of POL-ITE as Team Republic WST created history on 15 Nov 2010!

A good fight between both teams and as the match was a deciding factor as to who would be crowned Champions (ITE or NP), ITE was as determined as their opponents to retain that trophy as much as RP was determined to break ITE's 3 times Champions streak! True enough, ITE's determination showed when they took the lead in the later 1st half. However, before the 1st half could conclude, Fifi once again proved her scoring ability by equalizing the scoreline! 1-1, the score after 45 minutes.

The 2nd half couldn't be more exciting as both teams fought their way to see who would come out on top. ITE had a few good chances, including having one of their shots hitting the post! Mastura of ITE was creating trouble for Team Republic WST midfield, dribbling around her opponents (like a young Ryan Giggs) with her pair of skillful feet and making wide passes to her wingers. ITE definitely looked dangerous as they continued with good possession and passes, taking a few shots at goal, only for their shots to go wide, keeping Mim busy in her goal!

At 75th minute, Fifi striked once again, giving Team Republic WST the lead, 2-1! A cross from Shank into the box, Fifi controlled the ball and scored! This got the home crowd roaring, cheering the team on even louder! It was definitely hard for ITE to swallow. As hard as ITE tried to equalize, Team Republic WST cleared out every dangerous ball that entered the penalty box. Sheu was close to making the score 3-1 however was a tad too slow.

Needless to say, Team NP was there, cheering on the scoreline as it would mean that they would overtake the Champion spot should ITE lose. The beauty of soccer!

Full-time, RP came out winners although they didn't make the top 3 spot. However, Fifi finished the tournament as Top scorer with 5 goals!

A great way to end the tournament as Feiruz's last POL-ITE with the team, before he embarks on a new journey ahead. The team is obviously sad on his departure but with such history created, Feiruz said, "This is the best gift that I've ever received." Indeed, RP has never ever beaten ITE till this year.

Because this is such a great history, we bring you a photo galore! This time, with 10 photos!

Jannah keeps the ball away from an ITE player.

Sarah who was busy defending, races against an ITE player.

A few of the graduates who came down to watch history created.

Shank catches up with Mas of ITE as Mas decides her next move.

Magdalene watches out for the next move of an ITE player.

Samantha, who was brought in late into the 2nd half, closes down on an ITE player.

Celebration at final whistle as the bench players join in.

Fifi, receiving her Top Scorer Award from Director of OSG.

Annnd everyone says, "He's DAAAA MAN!"

Video and Practise

Yesterday, the team had both classroom lesson and practise.

Right after classroom lesson, the team had their usual 1.5 hours of practise till their next game against ITE on the 9 Nov. While they were sweating it out, their seniors, the Alumni, were also sweating it out, getting prepared for their 1st Challenge Cup match tomorrow.

To round up the training/s, The Alumni played a 9 (we'll soon explain) v 8 against their juniors and indeed, the younger ones emerged as winners with a 3-0 win, all goals from Jannah. Pretty good evening session, especially for the Alumni, who very much need some game practise after a long time.

As to why there was an extra player in the Alumni team is because "magically", Sha sha appeared and joined in the 2 sided game! Hence a 9 v 8.

So, stay tuned as the blog takes a break before the next POL-ITE match!

A moment to remember, a moment to forget

Once again, Fifi's strike in the early first half gave the team a 1-0 lead! Jannah took the free-kick, ball landed on Fifi's feet, made a turn, dribbled a couple of steps, ping-pong in the box and bang, ball at the back of the net! Before the end of half time, all was not meant to be when NP scored an equalizer through a through ball 1 v 1. At half-time, each side had one point each.

In the second half, Team Republic WST was even more driven and motivated to take back the lead again, displaying good team communication and passing among each other, almost scoring on most occasions but at the same time, NP's defenders were clearing all the balls that entered their territory. NP's captain and striker, together with her team mate #7, was providing problems for Team Republic WST, giving long balls and running with their speed, keeping their opposing defenders at bay throughout. Ernie had alot to do.

Another failed attempt to clear off the ball quickly resulted in NP's 2nd goal and FT, the match ended 2-1 in NP's favor. Magdalene, stand-in Captain Salasiah, Jannah all were near getting a goal but had their shots saved.

Shamim, who sat out the previous game was back in goal and put up an excellent performance during the game, saving and placing away many shots that rained at her goal!

Fifi, trying to keep possession of the ball against an NP player.

Fifi about to score for her 3rd goal in POL-ITE 2010.

Fifi celebrating with Ernie after scoring the open goal.

Ernie taking a free-kick.

Salasiah taking a shot while the rest looks on.

The team faces ITE next on 9 Nov, kick-off at 530pm. See you at the grand stand as you cheer and motivate the team on in their last match!

Fantastic Fifi

3 points in the bag in the first game and none for the 2nd game against NYP.

Both sides displayed good play passes to force the scoreline to a 0-0 draw after the first 45 minutes. Keeper Shamim was having a fever and sat out of the match, leaving Fifi, who also has a goalkeeping talent, starting on the other end of her team's half, in between the posts.

In the 2nd half, NYP had a couple of shots and most of the crucial shots were saved by Fifi.

Full-time and the score stood at 1-0 to the visitors, with the team staying at 3 points after 2 matches.

Next up, the team faces 2009's 2nd place, NP, kick-off at 530pm tomorrow.

We need not say less, just come in green and show your full support for the team tomorrow at the grandstand!

POL-ITE Updates: 3 points!

Not even 10 seconds and Team Republic WST lead 1-0 against SP, courtesy of Fifi. Right from the start, Fifi receive the ball upon play, dribbled the ball towards goal and scored.

15 minutes later, tragedy strike as captain Nina was stretchered out from the game, seemingly from a torn ACL. V-captain Salasiah took over the captain's role while Ernie replaced Nina. The team was driven and was willing to win this tournament for their captain.

True enough by HT, RP was holding a comfortable lead of 3-0 with goals from Fifi and Jannah. Singapore Poly's goalkeeper was unlucky in mishandling the ball from a strike by Jannah and the ball went past the line.

Both sides displayed good passes but Team Republic WST came out as the better team, with Magdalene, Fifi and Shank connecting well with the midfield to provide some good passes. In the 2nd half saw SP's right midfielder causing problems however that did not stop Team Republic WST from scoring yet another goal. Salasiah sent a shot over the goalkeeper from outside the box and by the final whistle, the team won 4-0.

3 points in the bag so far!

Fifi taking a shot for her 2nd goal.

Sheu congratulating Jannah on her goal. Apparently, Jannah wasn't aware the ball past the line until she got up!

Magdalene, who took many shots at goal, tries to get a shot against an SP player.

Sarah (left, in green), offering a hug to Salasiah on her goal.

The Alumni, who came down to watch their juniors in action, gather around Nina.

Next game, the team faces their Youth League opponent, NYP, kick-off at 530pm. Who will emerge as the winner?

Till then, see you at the grand stand (in green!)!

Game on!

28 minutes before we head off for kick-off!

SP women's team has arrived and as of now, both teams are getting prepared as we speak. Team Republic WST come together to watch some past World Cup glory moment videos to spur them on. Will the video motivate them and fire them up against SP or will it be just another result?

Stay tuned and.....25 minutes more to kick-off!

It's a (Victory) wrap!

Yes yes yes yes yes!

The Youth League had finally concluded and this evening, the team defeated Ottawa Serpent 2-0 in their last match! Goals are courtesy of Fifi and free kick specialist, Jannah! What a great way to end the league with a 2-0 win.

Sadly, the blog do not have photos from the match as the camera's battery life needed some urgent recharge! Surely after tonight, this memory will stay with them in their mind forever. After strings of draws and losses, tonight's victory was more than anything else.

Fret not, the blog will have a brief update (accompanied with photos) from the previous matches that we've yet to put up.

Enjoy the week and check back for the updates!

The Day before

That's right! Tomorrow, the team embarks on a 4 day trip to Kuala Kumpur (KL)! This trip marks as a preparation trip for the upcoming annual POL-ITE which will take place soon later in this month or early next month. At the same time, the team would be having a couple of friendlies against some teams over there.

For some, it would be a 2nd trip to Kuala Lumpur, for the others, it would be their first ever overseas trip with the 2nd-timers as a whole together.

This evening, the team have their last light training before the trip tomorrow.

No promises but we'll try to bring you photos from the trip when we can!

Youth League Updates: SIM

After 3 matches, Team Republic WST finally savored their first ever victory against SIM with a score of 2-0!

In this match saw many familiar faces as the team faced their ex-team mates who have since went on to SIM to further their studies. They were the ABCs - Aileen, Bernice and Catherine.

Shasha came close to scoring one in the first half but put the shot just wide! While SIM was trying hard to get a goal and trying to attack, Team Republic WST was also busy defending and rained shots at SIM on most occasions. Ernie was busy at the back, clearing out dangerous balls like she did against NUS.

In the second half, the team won a free-kick after a foul just outside the penalty box. Jannah stepped up, took the free kick and gave the team a double lead! SIM's keeper who displayed some exellent saves on the night, failed to keep the ball out and turned the ball into her own net.

Full time and Team Republic WST can finally say that they have 1 victory in their hands!

Shalsiah, captain in Nina's absence, watches the ball as Bernice gets the ball.

Charmaine, who was brought on in the late 2nd half, goes for a cross against SIM's tallest player.

Jannah, waiting for the whistle to take the free-kick.

Sad Sunny Sunday

With Hari Raya here over the weekend, the matches are all scheduled earlier and today's match against Singapore American School (SAS) kicked off at 5pm.

Team Republic WST was looking to grab their first win however, lost out to a huge scoreline of 1-4. The team conceded early and trailed by 2 goals in the first ten minutes. SAS continued to with good passing play, held great possession and rained many attacks and shots at Team Republic WST's half. The defenders were extremely busy at the back, trying to block and clear off shots from SAS forwards. End of first half and the SAS bagged 3 goals.

In the second half, many changes were made and alumni Faraheen was replaced by Norlyn and alumni Yi Wen was introduced to boost the attack. However, the combination of speed and skill of SAS's number 10, together with the great passing play between SAS players sealed the game. SAS's number 10 was quick to react to a connecting ball from her team mate on the left and scored the 4th goal for SAS from a one on one with Team Republic's WST keeper.

The only consolation goal for Team Republic WST was a consolation own goal from a SAS player who intended to clear the ball out but was unlucky. The ball went over their own keeper and into the net.

4 of Team Republic's WST Alumni are included in the squad and this evening, Shasha, Yati and Faraheen were among the starting 11. Shasha came close to putting the score back up to 1-3 in the first half but SAS keeper was quick to come forward to collect the ball.

End of the week and 1-4, was the score at final whistle. Definitely a sad way to end the week but the team would be looking forward to getting back on the field this week after a week of tests!

Shank, trying to predict a SAS player's next move.

Shasha, challenging a SAS player for the ball.

Jannah (centre), with the ball while 2 SAS players closes in.

The next match would be played at Team Republic's WST homeground come Wednesday. So let's hope the team put up a good game and a first victory!

Recap: Youth League Updates - U16

The 2nd match for Team Republic WST against U16 did not go well.

The team was determined to go all out and create a win for themselves however, slumped to a 1-4 defeat on homeground.

After the pre-match briefing and breaking fast, the first 11 got onto the field to warm up. The first few minutes of the game went well but the flanks were facing problems attacking as the U16 players were reacting quickly to win possession. The U16 were composed in this match and were hungry to win the team after losing to NTU and SAS previously. End of first half and the U16 were leading by 2 goals.

In the second half, the team tried their best to get into the U16 attack however conceded another 2 goals, increasing the score line to 0-4. Fortunately, a rough tackle by a U16 defender against Jannah presented the team with a chance to score. Jannah stepped up and took the free-kick, placing it into the top right hand corner of U16's net and reduced the score line to a 3 goal deficit.

Full time, final score 1-4 and this sums up as a bad day for the team.

The team hasn't win any games yet but as Sheu has put it, "We will fight harder and gain back our pride for the upcoming games!"

Next up, the team faces SAS away on SAS homeground on Sunday, 12 Sep, 5pm. Let's go, team!

Recap: Youth League Updates - UWC

The annual Youth League had just begun 2 weeks ago and so far, the team faced UWC and the facied National U16 side in their first 2 matches. Both matches were played on home ground.

In their first match, the team faced UWC. The team was ready to fight against UWC at their very own home ground. The first half was rather good as the team was mostly penetrating into the opponent's half and could have given themself a huge lead. In the later part of the first half, UWC was awarded a penalty kick due to a hand ball and converted the penalty smoothly.

In the second half, the team came back stronger after the half time briefing by Coach Feiruz. They played harder and got back into the game. The defenders were busy holding back UWC's strikers while the midfielders assisted by going into the attack, hoping to get a goal to even out the score line. Unfortunately, a handball by the team gave UWC another chance for goal.

Full time whistle and RP was defeated by UWC 0-2.

Now, we move onto the pictures!

Magdalene, intercepting a UWC player's pass.

Valerie, who did well in midfield, closes in on UWC's #16, who was a threat down the flank.

Norlyn, #18, one of the graduating players, intercepts a ball while keeping busy in the defense.

Jannah, #23 tries to block a move by a UWC player.

That's all for now! Do check back for a recap on the U16 game and more exciting post!

RP v NUS: Recap

The team lost out 1-3 in a 3-halves friendly against NUS last Thursday on a muddy pitch.

In the first half, the team had possession, played well and had good passing among each other. However, the team appeared to have difficulties converting all attacks into goals.

In the second half, the team fought harder, ran for every ball and grabbed all opportunities to bring the ball into the penalty box and was still unable to score. With the bad condition of the field, the team had to put in double the effort to run against the muddy field.

In the final half, Jannah brought the ball from the middle of the field and with the assistance of vice-captain Salasiah, brought the ball into the penalty box and scored! What a way to score with 3 NUS defenders in the box!

Next up, the team faces NYP today over at NYP's homeground. As Sheu has put it, "We hope to give another great fight against them!"

Now, onto the photos:
Ernie, brings the ball out of danger from NUS's 2 goal heroine.

Jannah (#23), RP's goal sole goal scorer for match, with the ball.

Gettin' Ready

With YOG2010 on-going, Team Republic's very own field is closed to host some of the YOG football teams' training.

While the field is unavailable, the team had been having friendlies week in and out as they prepare for the upcoming annual POL-ITE.

This evening, the team is having a friendly with NUS at 730pm at NUS field.

In the picture below, Captain Nina listens to some good music for motivation:

All 'LIVE' here and check back for half-time score!

The team is getting ready with some warm-up as we end this entry...

At half-time ... and Team Republic trails by 3 goals. Shalasiah, Magdalene and Ilyana were very close in the first 10mins only to be unlucky!

Full time, the score stands at 1-3, with the only goal from Jannah.

Beep beep!

Every year, the team goes through this test. It's not a written test nor a listening exam test but more of a running test, also known as the beep test.

This evening, everyone in the team took the test and in one hour, everyone was done! The champion of the day went to Ernie who reached a level of 10! Congratulations Ernie!

As for the rest, of course, there is always room for improvement! Now, it's back to the field tomorrow...

The young v old: Part II

Remember the day where the friendly with the alumni was postponed?

It was re-scheduled to last evening. This time, the team played against The Whites, consisting of 8 alumni, together with 15 various individual club players.

At the final whistle, the team fell to a heavy defeat of 1-12, with the consolation goal from vice-captain, Salasiah. Ilyana had a couple of chances but the shots went wide. As from the alumni, Utt scored one for The Whites!

Of course, this match definitely proved to be an eye opener and also a great exposure for the team, as they played against the experienced club players, of whom some had played at an international senior level. In addition, the team would be taking part in the upcoming Youth League and would be seeing some of these club players.

So, yet another great exposure and thankfully, there was no rain nor thunder! (Only after the match....)

The blog apologies that there are no pictures from the match!

Camp camp camp

Don't we all love camps? Especially when you are away from home and you have your team mates around you throughout the camp?

The team is currently having a 2D1N camp, also known as a bonding camp! So we bond, bond and bond....

Alot of activities had been lined up by the team committee for everyone and definitely, we will see plenty of team work going on! As for now, we have on pictures but once the pictures are ready, we will share on the blog here! Maybe we will have some blooper pictures too!

Before this post makes it's way out, here are some pictures from camp!

The team, comes together to form a star!

Getting in action in one of the games.

One of the teams reading up the rules before the game...

Making sure that no information is left unturned...

In action in another activity...

and another....

Going out on the field to guide the blindfolded...

and learning some juggling moves, perhaps?
(Norlyn finds it stressful, apparently...)

Outdoor dinner cooking!

Last but not least, a huge thanks to the Alumni who sacrificed their time to plan all these activities!
They definitely had a good time working together to plan the activities!

Old Divas!

Oh HAY HAY!

Sorry, the blog is just so excited and got carried away for a second. It's all for a GOOD reason.

At the annual Diva La Futbol, one of Team Republic's Alumni team was reigned as Champions in the loser pool just about 4 hours ago. Who says losers can never be winners? Here we have it! It was definitely a looooooong day at the event, having to be there from the moment the chicken calls to the time where people knock off from work.

Of course, not forgetting Team Republic who had 2 teams participated in the tournament as well.

What a day of great fight, great battles and great challenges which finally led to ...... that's right, exhaustion!

Results are not in for now but we have some photos!

Featuring the greeeeen team!

....and the white team!

Everyone comes together for a photo....coupled in some funny expressions

Norlyn in action.
