Post-match: Arion Women's 'B'

...and the final score is in!

Team Republic indeed finished off in style with a narrow 1-0 victory this evening in a hard-fought match, courtesy of skipper Azhmeera Shasha! There we have it, 3 points in the bag!

Sure it was a tough match and Arion Women's 'B' proved to be a tough nut to crack throughout, not allowing Team Republic to get a goal and clearing out all those danger balls that entered their inner territory. Azhmeera Shasha once again proved to be a threat with her signature speedy run on the front, closing down on every chance which could mean putting the team a goal up. In fact, Aileen almost put the team up in the first 20 minutes if not for the keeper who saved the ball just on the line. The substitutes were all on the edge of their seats, looking out anxiously to see if the ball had indeed passed the line.

On the other side, Arion's #19 was also a threat, exhibiting her dribbling ability along with her pace, troubling Team Republic's defense like a snake. She took a couple of shots but those did not trouble Team Republic's calm keeper, Zahidah, who made numerous saves between those 2 poles this evening, keeping her guard at all times.

In the 76th minute, Azhmeera Shasha finally broke the scoreline by firing one superb shot past the keeper from inside the 6 yard box, leaving the keeper with no chance at all. 1-0, Team Republic lead and Shasha Daud could have sealed it with a victorious ending had her shot from just on the edge of the 6 yard box not gone above the post. Nonetheless, Arion was still upbeat in a quest for an equaliser. They almost got one but Zahidah once again came to the rescue with a great save just minutes from the final whistle.

1-0, the match ended in Team Republic's favor and indeed, a great ending to this season! Also, Team Republic finished the season with a -2 goal difference, well done, indeed!

Shasha closes down on a chance.

The team celebrates the game's only one goal by Azhmeera Shasha!

Huda, who got a shot at goal, gets away from her opponent.

Bernice, who also got a shot at goal, escapes from an Arion player.

Azhmeera Shasha takes a shot and scores the only goal of the game!

So that's all from the Youth League! The team will take a couple of weeks off before returning to the field. For now, the team is busy coming down to show their undying support for the men's soccer team who are currently taking part in the inaugural POL-ITE!

Till then, the blog will be back!

Pre-match: Arion Women's 'B'

....and we're at the last game!

Under this hot and sunny evening, Team Republic will finish the Youth League against Arion Women's 'B'. Given that it is the last match, Coach Feiruz is looking to grab nothing but all 3 points to wrap up this season in style. Like the saying goes 'Finish off with a Bang'.

Who knows? Ilyana might be given a great 18th birthday present by Bernice/Aileen/Shasha scoring or say, Huda or Nina putting their names on the scoresheet! The ball is round and anything can take place!

So, check back for updates for the very very last time (and we meant Youth League updates, not that the blog is making it's last and final post)!

Pesta Sukan 2009

While the team is almost done with Youth League, they have also taken part in the annual Pesta Sukan 7 a side, held at Singapore American School.

This time round, Team Republic was grouped with Middle Rangers, the Superior Arion 'A', SAS 'A' and SMU. All in all, the team managed 2 draws against SMU and Middle Rangers and 2 losses; falling to a 7 goal heavy defeat to Arion 'A' and 0-2 to SAS 'A'.

It's been yet another weekend and 2 draws under an extremely Sunny Sunday showed just how much sun block the team have applied on themselves. Of course, we are just kidding but we are serious when we say that the team is made up of strong players who put in plenty of strength in every game and competition.

Enjoy the remaining of the weekend and the blog will be back!

Post-match: Ottawa Serpent FC

With both sides taking turns to be the threatening side, the game ended with a 0-0 scoreline after the final whistle.

Ottawa Serpent FC appeared to be the danger side in the first half, taking a number of shots with a couple going just wide and one hitting the side netting. Team Republic did take a couple of shots as well however were blocked out. In the first half also saw Ottawa Serpent FC being caught offside a couple of times.

Team Republic turned into an interesting side when Azhmeera Shasha and Nurjannah was brought onto the field. As per usual, Shasha used her speed to move ahead of Ottawa Serpent, causing them to play catch up on numerous occasions. Nurjannah was also a threat and took a couple of shots at goal. On a brighter note, Zahidah also made some pretty good saves in between those poles!

Yati makes her move while owning possession of the ball.

Sheu (left), who replaced Atiqah in the 2nd half, performed well on the right flank.

Azhmeera Shasha battles it out with Ottawa Serpent FC's captain for the ball.

2 more games to go against Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Arion Women's 'B' before Youth League 2009 comes to a close and a win in the last 2 games would make a happy ending! So come down and watch the team in action!

As the game against Middle Rangers FC 'B' was played the following day, the post-match report of the game would be up next week.

Pre-match: Ottawa Serpent FC

The blog is back, with Youth League action!

In 30 minutes time, Team Republic will be kicking off with Ottawa Serpents FC, who is currently sitting just above Team Republic in the table standings with 7 points, 2 more than Team Republic.

In the last match, Team Republic drew with VJC 1-1 while Ottawa Serpent lost out 0-1 to SAS 'B'. Will a point difference in the previous game show the vast difference in both sides today? Who would dominate? Who would go home with 3 points? Who would go home without a point or would it be a fair game altogether? Let's look at some statistics -

Head to head(last 2 matches):
RP - LW
Ottawa Serpent FC - ?L

Games played (not including tonight's):
RP - 6
Ottawa Serpent FC - 8

The goal for Team Republic now is to win tonight and move out of the bottom 3 slots, with another game tomorrow, back to back.

Check back for updates!

*The blog apologises for an error in match schedule due to rearrangement of match by FAS. Team Republic would be facing Ottawa Serpent FC today and Middle Rangers 'B' tomorrow at 7.30pm instead.
