Ausssss...what?

While the team takes a one week break before their next game against Middle Rangers 'B', there is news that 18 from the team would be going on a trip to....you've guessed it, Australia!

As for now we do not know yet who are the chosen 18 but a December trip to the western Australia would definitely be a trip much welcomed! While the weather forecast has it that it would be a hot 27-30 degrees in the summer, it would be great time to busk in the sun and get some tan! At least the team would not be soaking in the rain as rain is unusual in the summer.

If you think that the girls are there for a holiday, well, fact is that they are there to participate in the annual Indian Rim Asian University Games! Who are they going to face? We are not sure yet. As for now, all minds are set on Middle Rangers 'B'.

4 more matches before we call it a day on the Youth League 2009, can Team Republic finish top half of the table? Stay tuned to find out!

Post-match: VJC

Yet again another tough fight between both teams saw the score tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Yi Wen opened the scoring in the first half, only for VJC to score the equalizer 10 minutes later. Both teams were on par with their attacks and Team Republic came close on many occasions to adding onto the scoreline! Nurjannah and Shasha Daud could have scored however, their shots went above the post.

It sure seemed that Team Republic was going to win it in the late second half when Azhmeera Shasha was brought on for Yi Wen. With her well known pace, Shasha received a through ball, went past her opponent before taking a low shot, only for the ball to land into the safe hands of VJC's goalkeeper for a good 3 seconds before Fazilah took a shot on the loose ball which went above the post!

While VJC's captain Ang Kuan Ren posed as a threat with her snake-dribbling ability and her dangerous shots, Team Republic managed to clear out those danger balls. Zahidah also did well in goal, saving many on-target shots!

Bernice, Yi Wen and Nurjannah celebrates the opening goal.

Zahidah keeps a look out on the game as she guards her post.

Shasha Daud taking a shot.

Yi Wen(in white) tussles for the ball with a VJC player.

Azhmeera Shasha leading the race with the ball.

Next up, Team Republic faces Middle Rangers 'B' on 8th Oct 09, kick off at 7.30pm at their very own homeground. Mark it down on your calendar!

Post-match: Kaki Bukit FC

Team Republic put up a brave fight, only to lose 0-2 at the final whistle.

A tough first half game held both teams to a 0-0 draw. Aileen once again proved to be a threat down the left midfield together with Shasha who beat her opponent on most occasions on the front. Striker Yi Wen and right midfielder Il were busy and came close on a few occasions, only to have their shots go wide or saved by the keeper.

In the second half, Team Republic played a ten men team before introducing Shasha Daud, the stand-in captain, to complete the line-up once again. In this half, both teams were also seen busy clearing out each other's attack, with the ball seen up in the air on most times. 10 minutes into the second half saw Kaki Bukit's key player, Soffi, placing her team up ahead. The game was seen to be over when Ili gave away a penalty however, with great confidence, Zahidah made a great save and denied Kaki Bukit their second goal! But all was not meant to be when Soffi once again sent the ball into the back of the net 2 minutes later.

The highlight of the match was Aileen, who had 4 shots on goal(including a great timed header) which none were fortunate not to find the net! Indeed, it seemed like Team Republic could have reduced the scoreline but Lady Luck did not seem to be with them.

Nonetheless, a great battle and a great fight by Team Republic. 0-2 the scoreline and a restart to the clean sheet but that does not mean that everything stops here!

Next up, the team faces United World College (UWC) come Wednesday, 16 Sept 2009, kicking off at 7.30pm at their very own homeground at Republic Polytechnic.

Bernice tries to win the ball while Soffi tries to stall time.

Atiqah moves with the ball with a Kaki Bukit player closing in.

Post-match: SIM

Indeed, Team Republic officially has 2 clean sheets as they cruise to an easy victory of 6-0 over SIM. Admist all the drama and chaos in the later 2nd half, Team Republic managed to defend well and score a goal in the 2nd half after scoring 5 goals in the first half.

Tonight, Nurjannah was the hero as she scored her first ever hat trick in a match. Definitely a threat against SIM as she poured many dangerous shots at SIM. Aileen, who started on the left midfield was also dangerous and provided many important passes to the strikers. Team Republic created many good plays and passes as they attacked SIM literally every minute of the match. Yi Wen and Shasha made a dangerous partnership in the first half, making many shots at goal in between themselves. Yati also proved to be a greater threat in the 2nd half when she played as a striker.

The contributors of the goals:
Nurjannah - 3
Shasha - 2 (the 2nd one being an own goal from SIM)
Yi Wen - 1

Indeed, a great and huge victory tonight and as we like it, 3 points in the bag!

Not very clearly seen, Nurjannah takes a shot at goal before a SIM player intervenes.

Yi Wen closes in on an SIM player.

Shasha embraces Yi Wen in her arms after Yi Wen scored the opening goal.

Shasha and Yi Wen celebrates Nurjannah's 3rd goal for the night.

Next up, the team faces Kaki Bukit come Saturday, 12 Sept 09, kicking off at 7.30pm at their very own homeground. Mark it down in you calendar and come down to support while they go for a 3rd consecutive clean sheet!

Pre-match: SIM

The last time Team Republic faced SIM was on June 24, with an easy 3-0 victory.

Tonight, the team faces them for their 3rd Youth League match and Coach Feiruz is looking forward to grabbing all 3 points tonight.

Head to head (last 2 matches):
SIM - LL
RP - LD

Games played:
SIM - 4
RP - 2 (not including today's)

Team Republic has so far scored 2 goals while SIM has yet to put a single ball into the net. Hopefully Team Republic would continue their clean sheet and in addition, score more goals!

Post-match: SAS 'B'

As it is, the game ended goalless, with both team coming close in many occasions.

As SAS 'B' threatened with a number of good playing passes among themselves, they were unable to put the ball into the net and were only able to take shots into the hands of Team Republic's goalkeeper, Zahidah, who made numerous important saves. Team Republic sure did dominate in terms of off and on target shots and came close to scoring two goals or three, only for the ball to go wide. While Team Republic continued to pepper SAS 'B' with their opportunities to score in the 2nd half, SAS 'B' goalkeeper was quick to react on those occasions and saved any dangerous balls that could mean making a difference to the score line.

Yi Wen tries to go pass #19 of SAS'B'

Sha Sha, who gave SAS 'B' plenty of trouble with her fast-paced speed, battles it out for the ball with #19 of SAS 'B'

Zahidah, holds the ball calmly and decides her next move.

Jannah tries to intercept the dribble of an SAS 'B' player.

0-0 at the final whistle but this also meant that Team Republic's clean sheet begins from here!

Next up for their third match, Team Republic faces SIM this coming Saturday, kicking off at 7.30pm at their very own homeground at Republic Polytechnic.
