Cambodia's Calling: Part 2

Whoa, it's been more than half a month since we last shared about the trip to Cambodia! Without further a do, let's get part 2 started!

In this post, we have our special guest, Shasha, who share some photos and captions from the trip...

Their first ever PE lesson with games and running. As they say, action speaks louder than words, thus it was easier for us to communicate with action despite not knowing each other's language.

A visit to the Genocide Museum. The wall shows the partition of the prison cells of the victims. Indeed, a small space for them.

It's class break and they head off for the balls! This is also their training ground and soccer is the main sport for both boys and girls.

Cambodia's Calling

Right!

So it's been awhile since the last post as the team is currently taking a break. Yes, a break with lotsa kit kats! We're just kidding.

In the mean time, 3 of Team Republic's graduates, Iffa, Yatie and Shasha answered the call of Cambodia and headed there to conduct some PE lessons for the less-fortunate children there and at the same time, catch up with what's happening over at Phnom Phen.

We don't have much at the moment but some pictures to share!

These kids are living in a village where conditions are not so well off unlike where most of us are living but surely, even one day of PE lesson is more than enough to make a smile from ear to ear on their faces.

Tough win

This is coming in late but last Thursday, 25 Feb 2010, Team Republic achieved a great 1-0 win over SMU! The match was played in 3 halves of 30minutes and the goal came from vice-captain Salasiah in the 2nd half. Both sides played good passing and we have to say that Jannah was having a hard time marking SMU's #7, Martina! Nonetheless, she did a great job despite her small built!

New Year, New Medal!

We apologize for the late updates or nil updates ever since Christmas. Fret not, this time we have jolly good news to talk about!

Rolling into the New Year 2010, RPWST won a medal in the first ever inter jc-poly competition hosted by NP on 9 January! The team beat NP through penalties to enter the finals with NYP whom they also defeated in a sudden death penalty after an epic 3-3 draw after 5 penalty kicks! What an exciting New Year it has been for the team as they clinched their first ever silver medal!

The team was grouped with (Raffles Junior College) RJC, NP and Sporting Westlake with 5 goals against RJC and defeating NP and Sporting Westlake through penalties!

Shasha, who scored the first goal against RJC with a corner kick, vies for the ball with a Sporting Westlake FC player.

Jannah, who converted the penalty and 5th goal against RJC, fends off an RJC player.

Last but not least, the team poses with their very proud and hard fought first ever silver medal!

What's next for the team? POL-ITE 2010!

The blog apologises for the very late update as the blog tis the season as well!

So, that was it! After 2 soccer sessions or clinic, they had a competition on the Carnival day and matched up against each other! They definitely had a whack of a fun and as Christmas makes it's way in a few days, Santa Claus made his way to the Carnival as well to give out goodie bags to all the good boys and girls!

While it was the last day that the RPWST players would see them, it was also the same for the Admiralty Care Corner children and they would miss their coaches...aww...

So, pretty much it, the kids had good fun and RPWST looks forward to reaching out to the community where possible!
